Editorial Policies and Ethical Considerations

JAP Academy Journal follows editorial approaches that help ensuring that bias has been avoided. We pursue the highest standards of peer review while maintaining and increasing the efficiency of the process. We do our utmost to judge research objectively and to avoid favoring research. The journal is managed by a diverse Editorial Board led by an in-house Editor-in-Chief who is supported by a global team of researchers and clinicians from acclaimed institutes and hospitals. The Editor-in-Chief and Associate Editors work together to evaluate all manuscripts and publish studies that are scientifically valid, technically fit, accurate and original in data and follows the ethical standards outlined in the journal guidelines

  1. Manuscript Evaluation Criteria and Peer Review Policy

The manuscript evaluation criteria and peer review process are applicable to all manuscripts submitted to JAP Academy Journal, irrespective of their mode of submission with no applied exceptions. The acceptance criteria for all papers are scientific rigor, evidence that the data is consistent with the conclusions, adherence to technical and ethical requirements, and the scope of the journal. The journal uses a single-blind peer review model: editors and reviewers have access to the authors’ names and institutions; however, the identities of the reviewers are not revealed to the authors (except at the request of the referee).

All research articles submitted directly to the Journal are initially evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief and an Associate Editor; articles found appropriate for the Journal, in terms of scope, language, ethics, and scientific quality, will be subjected to external peer review and will be evaluated by at least two qualified experts. The choice of reviewers is done based on different factors, including relevant expertise, recommendations, and the editor’s knowledge of the reviewer’s performance in the past. For additional details about the role of peer reviewers, please see our guide for reviewers.

Authors are able to suggest potential reviewers. However, authors should be aware, that while reviewer suggestions are often helpful and always appreciated, they may not be followed especially if any of a conflict of interested was concerned. On the other hand, authors are also able to request exclusion of up to 3 reviewers with no required justification.

The decision for the manuscripts’ acceptance, rejection, or revisions request is taken by the Editor-in-Chief, based on the reviewers’ evaluation reports and the Editor’s own assessment.  If major revisions are requested, revised manuscripts are sent for the external reviewers again, usually to the same reviewers who evaluated the previous version of the manuscript.  If major concerns are raised during the peer review process and significant additional work is required, Editors may reject the manuscript and recommend that a new version of the manuscript is resubmitted. In all cases, a point-by-point detailed response to the concerns listed by the Editor and reviewer(s) should be provided upon resubmissions or revisions.

If author(s) believe that the Editors misjudged declining a paper, they are welcome to submit for an appeal. The Editors may reconsider a decision if they believe an error was made while making the final decision. If you believe that your manuscript decision qualifies for an appeal, please send your appeal letter to info@japacademy.org, stating the reason(s) behind thinking that the journal decision is mistaken, and please provide a detailed, point-by-point response to all reviewer comments if those seem to have been the main cause of rejection. The decision to consider the appeal is made by the Editor-in-Chief leading to sending the manuscript for further peer-review by similar or different reviewers and/or associated editors.
